The Dad Factor - recommended!
By Gollaroy
Really enjoyed The Dad Factor...and feel glad it is around now that my daughter is getting closer to raising her own family. I found especially enlightening the three areas of discussion which impact on new fathers today: the fear surrounding kids' active play; the new brain research and the trend towards diminished respect for fatherhood. The chapter entitled 'The Evolution of Fatherhood' really resonated with me, as did the chapter 'The many benefits of fathers' play'.
Contemporary family anecdotes contextualised the research and were very accessible. The book is far more than a manual for new parents. I'm sure it will also gel with new teachers, child care workers and grandparents, to name just a few. Author's notes, Index and further reading are all really clear and provide good links for further reading. Really recommended

Another great resource from a leader in our field
By Paul Prichard
Our attention to the critical importance that men play in the lives of their children is well overdue. Here in Australia, we still have a severe shortage of meaningful literature and research focused on men and the fatherhood role. 'The Dad Factor', written by a man who has emerged as one of our country's most passionate advocates / researchers in the field, is a massive achievement. It is an easy read jam packed with sensible, well articulated messages for both parents and practitioners, that, if heeded, would augur well for Australian dads, their children and families. Congratulations Richard on yet another remarkable achievement.

Essential reading for those who care about parenting
By Stu Anderson
The `Dad Factor' is enlightening for anyone interested in best practice as a parent. It will inspire fathers because it is a pleasure to read, being one of those books a reader can open anywhere and be intrigued. Richard has skilfully brought together diverse research to demonstrate clearly the significant (and complementary) role fathers play in the healthy development of children. The Dad Factor is timely in that our society is still struggling to accept father's importance in raising children. Because this book encourages fathers to value their role, it is also important regarding the struggle for women to enjoy equal opportunity in the workplace. When we all see parenting as one of the most important jobs an adult can have, then the myth that women's place is in the home will finally fade away. This book presents the evidence for a seismic shift in the way we perceive and value fathers. I highly recommend it.
